I have officially been shooting for about two years now. I started in February of 2024 shooting FC Dallas soccer with my dad. After transferring from community college to here, I bought my first camera, a Panasonic Lumix G7 with a 14-42mm kit lens. Since my portfolio was slightly built from FC Dallas, I applied for a photography position at The University Star. I got the spot, and started learning more about photography building my portfolio. For sports that were taking place further away where my Lumix lens could not cover, my dad was able to lend me his Nikon D500 with a 70-200mm lens, and my photos got even better. I took photos there for two semesters, and my photos were featured on their Top Sports Photos of 2025. I saw an application open for the Athletics department over the summer, and decided to give it a try. I got the position.
When I got the job at Athletics, I knew that I wanted to start going into videography, mostly to fuel my film hobby. The Lumix was great for me as a beginner, but I knew I wanted a camera that could shoot in color profiles so I was able to learn how to color grade. I was lucky enough to be able to upgrade to a Sony A7IV. Since then, I have been learning a lot about videography, color grading, and getting a better workflow. This month I will be filming for the softball and baseball team.
I have been working at Athletics since Fall 2025, and I learned a lot about how professionals work and how it coincides with social media. My favorite sports to shoot are football and track. While my skills are still building for football, I would love to work for a football team in the future. While stressful, you get the opportunity to be creative behind a camera and travel while getting paid. What more could I ask for? As the 2026 season starts, here are a couple of my favorite photos from 2025.
